A while back I heard about a movie that was coming out called Avatar:The Last Airbender. With that news was a trailer:


At the end of the movie, I commented to myself that the title looked like it came out of Harry Potter. Nothing more was mentioned so it drifted to the far reaches of my mind. Then a second trailer was released:

I saw it and thought that the trailer really wasn't very good. But I decided to look up the first trailer again since I seemed to remember it being cool. After watching it I read some comments and saw that people seemed to love the cartoon and that they hoped the movie was good. This prompted me to look it up on Wikipedia, and there I saw this quote: "and receiving high ratings in the Nicktoons lineup, even outside its 6–11-year-old demographic." This peaked my interest and I watched the first two-part episode; I really liked it.

I have since watched the first season and have begun the second. But my question about the upcoming movie is this: Can it even remotely touch the quality of the TV show? My default answer would be no, but after the awesome Star Trek reboot, I dare to hope.

Ok, I found a new show.

The Unusuals

It started April 8th and I found it April 24th. Wikipedia says it is, "like a modern-day M*A*S*H."

That's awesome. I have been trying to find something to compare it to and MASH fits the bill wonderfully.

Watch it, it's funny clever, has interesting secrets to reveal, and I really don't want it to die like... other shows (Best Canceled Tv Shows That I Liked).

My Favorite TV Shows

Keep in mind, I don't ever watch TV, and I watch these on my computer. So I don't get the wonderful commercial breaks which, I'm sure contribute greatly to the shows. Also, these are not in any order, since I can't make comparisons; All with the exception of the first one which is the greatest show ever made.

Firefly: Great script and superb characters.

The Big Bang Theory: So funny with so much geek talk.

Pushing Daisies: Very original with great sets and wonderful acting.

The Mentalist: Patrick Jane is like a modern Sherlock Holmes.

Supernatural: Good Plot, great execution.

The IT Crowd (Season 1+2): Until season three it was a very funny show, especially Richmond.

Hogan's Heroes: Great humor, wonderful acting.

Dr. Who: "I'm the Doctor."

Dr. Horrible: So clever and with such music.

Invader Zim: "I was the turkey all along."

Eleventh Hour: Nice switch from the regular crime show.

Futurama: Just funny.

Remember my list of great shows that were canceled?

Well I have another gem to add to the list:

Pushing Daisies. “A forensic fairy-tale.”

The last three episodes from this season will air sometime this summer and provide no ending to the show. To the contrary, it will end with a “huge plot twist involving a main character.”

Go watch The Bing Bang Theory for consolation.

Back when I started watching The Big Bang Theory, I thought it was the funniest thing I'd seen. "I'm a vegetarian, but I eat fish. Oh, and stake. I LOVE a good stake." But as each episode airs (translate: "is recorded and I download and watch it") the show keeps getting funnier and funnier. When I watched the Christmas episode, I thought I'd seen the climactic event where TV was the best it could get, and it would go downhill from there. But the inverse has occurred, the first January episode this year was the best yet. If you haven't seen it, go do so.

I just really hope it doesn't go the way of The IT Crowd. That show was the greatest, "Hello, IT, have you tried turning it off and on? Is it plugged in?" But this third season (seasons being 6 or 7 episodes) is just horrid, language, sex, more language. Mind you, the show is still funny, it just violates my moral line.



But go watch The Big Bang Theory...

P.S. I'm given to understand that your mother is overweight.

Now of course, if that is a result of a glandular condition and not sloth and gluttony I withdraw that comment.

I seem to notice that all of the TV shows I can get excited about always wind up getting canceled. Why? I don't know why, but these are my favorites:

Invader Zim;          Brilliant show. Funny, not any subconscious learning going on in the background. Not a bit of, "Hey, let's try to string a plot together through the course of the show." Gir was the greatest thing to hapen to TV; ever.



Firefly;             I only ran across this one recently; I have heard people talk about how great it is, but never seen it for myself. So I finally watched it. I was almost through the first (last) season before I learned that the show was doomed to only one season. Argh. I wanted to find out the Sheapard's secret history.

Futurama;       This show is just funny on all levels. "Bite my shiny metal ***."
