Free Speech

This post spawned from the source of the image I used in my last post.

It was to be about media bias regarding global warming (referenced from celsias.com).

But, following a link from that article changed this post and my mindset.

First I want you to remember the First Amendment (Bill of Rights) to the Constitution: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Then think of what you would do without that freedom... Got it? Good, now do that, because Congress is was trying to make that happen. Section 220 of S. 1, the lobbying reform bill would have made bloggers (and other grassroots entitys) that make over $25,000 yearly and talk to more than 500 people would have to file with Congress as a lobbying group. If they didn't they could be fined or jailed.

Fortunately this was voted down, but it raises a good point. Did you know about this when it happened? This news is over a year old, but I don't remember any big stink about it. Are you ignoring your politicians so much that they could take away your freedom of speech without you noticing?
